lya K was an electro-rock band from Waterford formed in 2004. In 2006, the band released a split 7" single with fellow Waterford band, Gorbachov. In 2007 Ilya K won the The 'Murphy's Live 2007' competition with an eclectic performance at The Village in Dublin where the final took place. The prize included, studio recording time, an EP with Fifa Records as well as PR and a six month management deal. As a result of this they band released the 'Empires Is A Cave' single later that year.
In 2008 lya K were invited to play the Glastonbury Festival in June after one of the Glastonbury organisers caught their performance at the Hill of Tara summer solstice festival. They also played at the Electric Picnic. In September of that year, they released their debut album 'Anaesthesia Ad Infinitum'.
The following year brought the release of the 'She's Got The Lonliest Eyes (In The World)' single. Later that year, the band split. Niall Cuddy went on to perform with Vita. Aaron cropped up drumming with Fighting Spiders and Windings. Spud Murphy went on to play bass and synths with Percolator, Katie Kim and Oxn as well as handle production for Lankum, Ye Vagabonds, Junior Brother and many other regarded acts.
